Inspire. Scare. Educate. Entertain.
The motto has always been there, ever since UNIV-CON began. However, it wasn't until 2005 when it was put in to three simple words: Scare, Educate and Entertain. This was the promise of UNIV-CON.
Whenever any attendee enters the world of UNIV-CON, the one thing we hear the most is them saying, "I've never experienced a paranormal conference like this."
We don't really play by the rules, but that doesn't mean we don't have the utmost respect for this field. To me, UNIV-CON has always been a playground of ideas. Even reoccuring speakers, ones that attend many conferences a year, come to UNIV-CON and deliver something fresh and new.
UNIV-CON isn't about playing it safe. UNIV-CON has always been about setting new trends and precedents throughout the field. UNIV-CON aims to raise the bar, to challenge other paranormal investigators (and even other paranormal conferences) to try harder to make an impact.
And this is where this year's new addition to the promise begins.
Inspiration. When you look at the main lineup of UNIV-CON - John Keel, Jason and Grant, Lorraine Warren - these people have inspired. They have been a huge inspiration to my development in this field. One of the first books I read was based off of a case by the Warrens. I remember reading "The Mothman Prophecies" for the first time and being blown away. I remember seeing the organization and structure of TAPS a few years before they became television personalities. These people have been an inspiration to many, many others.
I believe that the paranormal community needs inspiration. Now more than ever. Each of these living legends, along with a couple dozen other renowned speakers and workshop presenters, will make an effort to uphold the promise and motto of UNIV-CON.
When you come to UNIV-CON, we hope you have a great time, we hope you get to take many pictures and make new friends. But most importantly, we hope to scare you, entertain you, educate you, and above all else, we hope to inspire you.
See you all in October!
